Birmingham clinic to close after botched abortions

An incident that sent two abortion patients to the hospital from a Birmingham abortion clinic in January has resulted in the state health department in Alabama ordering the closing of the New Woman All Women clinic.

As LifeNews reported, the health department issued a scathing 76-page deficiency report written by the Alabama Department of Public Health that details dangerous and deceptive practices that continue to endanger the health and safety of women.

The Alabama Department of Public Health issued a press release stating that the clinic has been ordered to surrender its license on or before May 18, 2012.

Letter form the Board

Dear Friend of Sav-A-Life,

Teresa Butler, who served as our Executive Director for many years, left the Sav-A-Life ministry Feb. 1.  The Board of Directors deeply appreciates the excellent administrative skills Teresa applied in the daily operations of this ministry.

We are very excited to say that Carrie (Gore) Eckhardt accepted our invitation to come on board full time as the new Executive Director.  Carrie has served as a Sav-A-Life volunteer, and more recently served as our Field Director. She organized our first banquet in November, which was a great success, and in other ways is full of ideas and energy. The board will be challenged to keep up with her.

We also congratulate her on her recent marriage to Conrad Eckhardt. Conrad had his first encounter with the ministry in a recent reorganize day at our office.

We thank you for your continued support, and greatly appreciate your prayers during this time of transition.

In His service,

Ed Lopacki – Chairman

P.S. We have a pressing need for receptionists and volunteers as we seek to restore the ministry to a full weekday and Saturday schedule.  Please consider this need prayerfully, especially if you formerly served, and contact our office if you want to help at 205-758-7258 or call Carrie’s cell 205-399-7330.

Volunteer Work Day

Storage Area and diaper closet

Recently Sav-A-Life had a work day at our center. Several volunteers came out to help us do a little clean up and rearranging. We had excess donation from the Tornado Relief last year and we had a PODS which was costing the ministry monthly. Duckworth-Morris has donated a storage room up stairs that is sufficient for our needs. We emptied the PODS and then put together shelves and created a room that will be perfect for putting together diaper bags for our clients that have a baby.

Thanks again to all the volunteers (listed below) that came out to spend a Saturday at the center.

Ryan Marks, Mary Ann Lopacki, Joe Phelps, Conrad and Carrie Eckhardt and Nicholas Romo.

Walk postponed, donations needed for victims

Due to the tornado damage, as well as the extensive involvement of many supporters and this ministry itself, we are holding off on the annual walk, which was schedule for May 7. Look here and elsewhere for a notice of a new date.

We’re grateful for the local generosity, as well as an abundance of assistance from other states as well as other Pregnancy Test Centers in Alabama. The community will need help for many months to come.  Due to the lack of space in our office; Sav-A-Life requests that you make monetary donations from this point forward. Sav-A-Life will continue to help the women and children in our community and the surrounding communities that have been affected by the tragedy of April 27th.  We now have the capability to donate online. If you would like to donate to Sav-A-Life of Tuscaloosa, please click the button below. Your donation is much needed and appreciated.
