Walk postponed, donations needed for victims

Due to the tornado damage, as well as the extensive involvement of many supporters and this ministry itself, we are holding off on the annual walk, which was schedule for May 7. Look here and elsewhere for a notice of a new date.

We’re grateful for the local generosity, as well as an abundance of assistance from other states as well as other Pregnancy Test Centers in Alabama. The community will need help for many months to come.  Due to the lack of space in our office; Sav-A-Life requests that you make monetary donations from this point forward. Sav-A-Life will continue to help the women and children in our community and the surrounding communities that have been affected by the tragedy of April 27th.  We now have the capability to donate online. If you would like to donate to Sav-A-Life of Tuscaloosa, please click the button below. Your donation is much needed and appreciated.

Walk for Life coming in May

Sav-A-Life’s Walk for Life will be held Saturday, May 7, at the Magnolia Shelter at Snow Hinton Park. This is the year’s major fund-raising effort for the ministry, so it’s important for all our supporters to get pledges.

Registration will start at 9:30 a.m. and the walk will begin at 10. The event will include the usual two-mile walk, door prizes, refreshments and lots of friends who value life as much as you do. We’ll also have prizes for our top walkers and other categories.

If you need a pledge sheet, bulletin inserts or would like a speaker to promote the walk at your church or church group, contact our field director, Carrie Gore, at 758-7258.

Our new field director

Sav-A-Life is excited to have a new Field Director, Carrie Gore. She has begun visiting church and school groups to tell them about our ministry and how they can support it with prayers, volunteer efforts and money. She’s already working with the University of Alabama Students for Life group to coordinate ways we can work together.

Before Carrie and her family moved to Tuscaloosa last year, she worked with the very active Alex City Sav-A-Life, helping with volunteer activities and fund-raising banquets, and she has been volunteering with our office as well. Carrie is drawing on her Alex City experience to provide good ideas for how we can expand our efforts, including implementation of a youth abstinence program.

Carrie is contacting many local churches and will be speaking at some of them throughout the year. Please contact her if you think there’s an opportunity to talk with your church’s women’s group, youth group or even the full congregation. Until our Walk for Life takes place May 7, she will be spreading the word about that and recruiting walkers to raise money for the walk.

You can reach Carrie at 758-7258 or fielddirector@pregnancytestcenter.com

Pro-life book to expose Planned Parenthood

The publisher of a new book is putting on a webcast to launch it. Free registration is available below:

On January 11, 2011, former Planned Parenthood
director and 2008 “employee of the year” Abby Johnson
will finally be able to reveal all the secrets from
behind the closed doors of the abortion business …
and why she left to join the pro-life movement!

Abby was the director of the Planned Parenthood
abortion facility in Bryan/College Station, Texas.
Yes — her clinic was the site of the first-ever
40 Days for Life campaign back in 2004.

Six 40 Days for Life campaigns were conducted outside
her workplace before Abby experienced a profound
conversion during the Fall 2009 campaign … and
literally walked into my office with deep remorse to
tell me she wanted out of the abortion business.

Planned Parenthood immediately filed a massive
lawsuit and restraining order against Abby (and me)
with the intent to silence her.

But we finally WON that legal battle, and Abby is now
able to blow the whistle on her former employer and
reveal ALL the shocking details of her experiences
inside the abortion industry … and her conversion.

Abby’s story has never been fully revealed publicly
… UNTIL NOW!

On Tuesday, January 11, Abby’s story will be released
to the world in a landmark book, titled “Unplanned,”
which is being published jointly by Tyndale House,
Focus on the Family, and Ignatius Press.

One night before — on Monday, January 10, at 9 PM
Eastern (8 PM Central, 7 PM Mountain, 6 PM Pacific)
– we convinced Abby to join us for a live webcast
sneak preview of the no-holds-barred revelations
which fill the pages of “Unplanned.”

Register for the FREE event.

Lives saved in California

From the national 40 Days for Life newsletter:

40 Days for Life volunteers were encouraged to see a
large group gathered on a Saturday for a Walk for Life
from Calvary Chapel School in Downey, Calif. “But after they left,” said
Patti in Downey, “the steady stream of cars poured in
as usual and our hearts were heavy the rest of the day
with no apparent saves.”

Prayers did not go unanswered, however. On Monday, when
women come in for pregnancy tests and make appointments
for abortions, there were three abortion-minded women
who changed their minds for sure — and possibly two
others who left the facility after talking to prayer
volunteers and receiving literature.

“Our hearts were encouraged again, for we now know of
ten mothers in Downey who have chosen life since the
campaign began,” Patti said.

“People all over the city are beginning to pray and
churches are slowly but surely getting involved in this
our first campaign,” she added. “We are so thankful for
everyone’s prayers and to our faithful Savior who’s in
charge of this whole movement of His prayer warriors!”

(You can learn more about the Tuscaloosa initiative by visiting the 40 days Tuscaloosa site.)
